I suggest that it means if you do this, your upper body will be "ripped" which means you'll have clearly defined muscles.

Mike may not be used to vocabulary used to describe hot, muscular but still lean males (usually males) where you say "he's ripped." Matthew McConaughey (sp??) comes to mind as someone I'd say was ripped.

Aside from "Jack the Ripper" I have never heard "rip" used to describe killing with a knife.

I don't know why the word "ripped" became used as an adjective to describe someone with a well-toned muscular body. I don't think there is any literal meaning about "ripping away" the fat.

You will also hear "shredded" to mean the same thing.

By the way, thefamous criminal's nickname translates as "Jack the gutter/disemboweler" in Spanish (far mor graphical, IMO, than the English one! :shocked!
