This sentence is from a marketing copy about some product, which I believe is written by a native English speaker.

"It will boost your productivity by 2.5x".

My question is:
If the orginal productivity is 10, then what will be the new productivity? 25 or 35?

I agree that it's poorly written. It might mean 25 or 35.

The x suggests that you should multiply 10 by 2.5, as Jut has done. On the other hand, the phrasing makes it sound as though you might be adding another 25 to the ten you already have, which would make 35.

All in all, I'm leaning toward Jut's 25.

But writing like that makes me leery. It just sounds like flim-flam and double-talk.
