born vs born as

Hello,

*self-made*

1- I was born (as) a Jew.
2- I was born (as) Jewish.

I'd like to ask if I can put 'as' or not. It does not sound good to put it but I do not know why. :-|

I don't know the answer to the "why" question, but you definitely don't need "as" in either sentence. Also, I don't either sentence is ever used with "as" in that spot.

No one is born any particular religion. They learn/adopt their religion (if any) from their parents etc.

You could say "I was born to Jewish parents".

Judaism is both an ethnicity and a religion. Can a person be born Jewish? Well, a lot of people seem to think so.

I was born a Jew, though I've never been religious. Under Jewish law, anyone whose mother is a Jew is also a Jew.
