You could use "except rice", but not "except the rice"."All the [STRIKE]cerial [/STRIKE] cereal grains but rice grow on the [STRIKE]praries[/STRIKE] prairies and plains of the USA".
Could I use " ....except the rice grow....." in this sentence?
