@Barque Your English is great but please remember to write in complete sentences at all times on the forum. We need to set a good example to learners.Yes, I suppose it is. I'm not enough of a grammarian to say whether it can be both.
Can you kindly help answer the below?@Barque Your English is great but please remember to write in complete sentences at all times on the forum. We need to set a good example to learners.
It is not grammatically correct. "By now" doesn't work with the rest of the sentence. We don't use "is done" to mean "has been completed" much in BrE but, in my opinion, "done" is an adjective in that usage.@emsr2d2 Can you kindly help by answering the question below?
“Is this done by now?”
Isthe aboveit grammatically correct?
Whattype oftensedoesis “is done”havehere? Is it present simple or is “done” an adjective here?
So can I say “This is done by now.”?It is not grammatically correct. "By now" doesn't work with the rest of the sentence. We don't use "is done" to mean "has been completed" much in BrE but, in my opinion, "done" is an adjective in that usage.
There are various grammatical alternatives:
Is it finished?
Is it finished yet?
Have you finished it?
Have you finished it yet?
I thought you would have finished it by now.
As a rule, "by now" doesn't work in a question. It's OK in a statement (as in the last example above). In a question, it would be "yet"
You could say "This should have been done by now" but not "This is done by now".So can I say “This is done by now.”?
