Can I have a coffee, please?

We can use this sentence both at someone's home and in a cafe(teria), can't we?

(A Collins Cobuild Grammar I read says expressions like 'two coffees'(which means two cups of coffee) are usually used in restaurants.)

I often offer a houseguest a coffee, though it's more typical to say some coffee. I use a single-cup brewing technique so that seems natural to me. :)

It would be very unnatural to ask for two coffees as a guest on someone's home. The only exception would be if the host/ess had been counting drink requests, in which case you might say something like two coffees and three teas over here.
