Candlewick embroidery/Candlewicking

As Gloria sits and bounces on the bed, running her fingers over the lilac candlewick cover, William wonders if the Musseys ever slept in this room, on this mattress.

Does anybody know what candlewick embroidery is? I think it doesn't have anything to do with a real candlewick. Why is it called candlewick embroidery for all that?

Yes, indeed, it has to do with real candlewicks.

It gets its name from the nature of the soft spun cotton thread, which was braided then used to form the wick for candles.
