Dear teachers,

Would you share with me your opinion about my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?

I can always change my mind about going on this trip.

change one’s mind = change one’s opinion

But Jasmine persisted “Can’t you do anything to change his mind?”

change somebody’s mind = compel s.o. to change their opinion

V.

Persuade is the usual idea, not compel. Unless it's a bunch of mobsters talking.

compel = to force, drive, or constrain: Duty compelled the soldiers to volunteer for the mission.

compel = to exert a strong, irresistible force on; sway: "The land, in a certain, very real way, compels the minds of the people" (Barry Lopez).

Quite.

Now, where have I seen that before?
