1. The villagers, though few in number, were incredibly friendly (LACKED)
-> What the villagers lacked in number, they made up for in friendliness.

2. My business partner and I are in complete agreement (DIFFERENCE)
-> There is no difference in opinion between my business partner and I.

3. In the end they left me to settle up with the restaurant (FOOT)
-> In the end, they left me to foot the bill with the restaurant.

4. Getting upset over Michael's departure is pointless (TEARS)
-> There's no point in getting bored to tears over Michael's departure.

5. Stop criticising everybody. (DOWN)
-> Stop running everybody down.

6. Everyone had a great deal of respect for Mr.Jones, the director. (HIGHLY)
-> Everyone highly respected Mr.Jones, the director.

7. On long journeys with children, arguments are inevitable (BOUND)
-> On long journeys with children, arguments are bound to happen.

8. I only have to think of all those children and I get a headache (THOUGHT)
-> All those children only have to occur in my thought and I get a headache.

9. The demand for guidebooks has been rising steadily this semester (RISE)
-> There has been a steady rise in the demand for guidebooks this semester.

10. For some reason, we never considered renting a car in UK. (OCCURRED)
-> It never occurred to us to rent a car in UK for some reason .
11. Contact the receptionists if you have any further problems. (GET)
-> Contact the receptionists if any further problems get to you.
12. My sister was offended when she was left out of the English club (EXCEPTION)
-> My sister took exception to being left out of the English club .
