Hi all

I would like know your opinion about this sentence:

Theoretically there are many possibilities but most of them end up behind the bars of prison.

Is it correct or no ?

Welcome to Using English.

Just say "behind bars" (omit "of prison").

But... who ends up behind bars? The possibilities? That's how the sentence reads. So we have a problem with meaning, even though the grammar is okay. (I'd put a comma after "possibilities.")

'Is it correct or not?'

Thanks,

I had the same doubt, I have changed it to:
Theoretically there are many possibilities, but most of them can takes us behind the bars.

Right now I am not sure about "can takes" is it correct or I should use "can leads" or something else?

Thanks,

I had the same doubt, I have changed it to:
Theoretically there are many possibilities, but most of them can take[STRIKE]s[/STRIKE] us behind the bars.

Right now I am not sure about "can take[STRIKE]s[/STRIKE]". Is it correct or should I use "can lead[STRIKE]s[/STRIKE]" or something else? Absolutely not. It is not correct. "Can" is a modal verb. When it is followed by a verb, the verb does not contain -s/-es in Present Simple form. So answering to your question - neither "can takes" nor "can leads" is a correct option.

That sentence is understandable. There are a lot of things we can do about this situation. Unfortunately, most of them are illegal. Is that about right?

Yes, You are right,

"There are a lot of things we can do about this situation. Unfortunately, most of them are illegal."

Is the correct meaning.
