I want to know the difference among "circumferential surface" and "peripheral surface". Which is better to describe the outer side surface of a round object such as a tube, a cylinder, and a can of beer.

I'd use outer surface.

You could use "circumferential" if you need to distinguish between that surface and the end surfaces. Or you could say the "body" of the can versus the "ends."

Does using "peripheral" cause only strange feeling or misunderstanding ?
