What do you call the rest of the students at your class when you are studying at a school, college or a university, class fellows or class mates?

Which one is more common where? (in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand)

Are both gender neutral because you also have girl students at the class and mate is used for males, So do you use classmates to refer to girls too?

Re: Class fellows or Clkass mates

I use classmates for both males and females.

Fellow students are classmates in the US. We don't use mate to mean "male friend", so there's no suggestion that a classmate is a particular gender.
