[Grammar] Confiusion about Present Perfect - one sentence

I am a bit confused about the sentence below:

'I have recently taken an interest in photography and I took/have taken some photos of an old factory.'

If both answers are possible, could anybody explain the difference, please?

I would use "have taken".

Thanks for a quick answer. I made up that sentence myself, it's not from a book.

What about justification... why would you choose 'have taken'?
Is 'took' also correct?
How to understand is the DIFFERENCE between those two possibilities? Could anybody explain, please?

As you are linking your interest in photography to a time period extending present,('I have recently taken ...), it seems logical to consider your taking of photographs in the same way.
