Yes, courtesy by putting the other person first.
You'll never hear "I and B ..." from a native but you'll often hear "Me and X..." used - correctly when in the objective case.

"Me and Bobby McGee"
"Me and my shadow ..." [This one is a bit different].

I assume it arose as a sign of courtesy or respect. In any case, it is certainly the conventional thing to do.
