Having done a search under the above sentence + 'exam questions', I came across with a similar sentence, and when given the complete example, the mistake becomes evident:

I want you to work harder (than last term just from the beginning.)​

Why didn´t you stick with your original response?
I fail to see an error. It´s certainly reasonable to use "I want you to work harder" as a complete sentence. "You didn´t receive good grades last term. I want you to work harder."
