Is "cut of the pie" a common idiom to mean your share of profits?

ex)...When Kurosawa learned what was going on, he sent Leone a letter praising the Italian's film and asking for his cut of the pie....

Yes and no. Normally you just see expressions like 'He wants his cut.' There's also the expression 'having a finger in the pie' - which means having an [often financial] interest in something. So in some contexts you might find both images getting mixed up.
