Dear all,

If I would say,

its replacement would be A "depends" or "depending" on how you use it.

Should I use depends or depending?

Thank you

Here are two imaginary dialogue I wrote to examplify the difference. There would be other different places to use them.

P1: We need to change the schedule.
P2: Depending on what?

P1: Will we able to go on a vacation in this summer?
P2: Depends.
P1: On what?
P2: On whether we could save enough money or not until the summer comes.

Hello,
If you use be, you will need to use depending
Its replacement would be depending on how you use it.

Hint: Depends would be wrong anyway, because you don't need to add an -s since you use would.
Grammatically correct should be:
Its replacement would depend on how you use it.

Or even:
Its replacement depends on how you use it.

P.S: I believe it's "If I said.... would", not "If I would say... would" - but maybe I'm wrong...

Cheers!

As I see now, Nightmare understood the question well, and I answered a bit out of context. So, stick with Nightmare's answer. :-?

Hello,
If you use be, you will need to use depending
Its replacement would be depending on how you use it.
This is a substandard sentence.
Its replacement would be what depending on how you use it?
The following is possible:
"Its replacement would be bigger/different/stronger, depending on how you use it."

The rest of your post is good, and contains better alternatives.

P.S: I believe it's "If I said.... would", not "If I would say... would" - but maybe I'm wrong...
You're right. We don't say, "If I would say..."
Cheers!
R.
