[Grammar] despite

Could you help me find out which sentence is correct here:

1. Despite his tiredness he went to the cinema.
2. Despite (his) being tired he went to the cinema.
3. Despite the fact that he was tired he went to the cinema. (I think this sounds too formal.) :shock:

Apart from a missing comma in every sentence, I think all three of these are perfectly acceptable.
