What does "stalling" mean?

In the episode of Bojack Horseman "Diane Stalls For princess Carolyn", there are such lines:
Diane's in your office right now, stalling poorly.
Diane, are you stalling for Princess Carolyn?
What? You know who was good at stalling? It was Joseph Stalin.

I really do not understand the word stalling here, dictionaries do not help.

Well, if somebody has asked you a question and you are trying not to give them an answer you might be said to be stalling. However, it can be hard to be sure without more context.

Stalling is delaying. Trying any words or actions to avoid what it is the other person is expecting from you.

Like your boss is expecting you to deliver a report, but you are still have your team finishing the presentation, so you divert the boss's attention by asking about his weekend, or getting him to talk about something else. It's buying you time.
