Diary - I recently bought a book about ancient Egyptian language

I recently bought a book about ancient Egyptian language. I’d thought the language had long gone. It’s interesting to learn the meaning of hieroglyphics. I learned that a text can be written from left to right or vice versa. If we want to know where to start to read a text, we need to look at the unsymmetrical characters. For example, if a bird‘s looking right, we should read the text from right to left. When I was a child, The Mummy movies intrigued me of ancient Egyptian mythology and spells. There’s a chapter about coffin spells in the book but I’ll skip it because I remember that the woman in The Mummy read out something and released the ancient spirits. I’m worried that I might be the chosen one so even if I just think about the spells, I might materialize some things.

I have a couple of suggestions. For the first sentence, insert "the" before "ancient Egyptian language" as it's clear that you are only talking about one.

Try:

When I was a child "The Mummy" movies intrigued me. (They were about ancient Egyptian mythology and spells).

The first two sentences are a bit short and stuttery. How about "I recently bought a book about ancient Egyptian, a language I thought was long since dead"?

I recently bought a book about the language of the ancient Egyptians.

I’d thought the language had long gone.

I'm not sure what you want to say. The language is long gone, so this doesn't make much sense.

Did you genuinely not realise that the meaning of Egyptian hieroglyphics had already been deciphered? The first deciphering is believed to have taken place in 1822!

I reread the OP. The first and third sentences go well together. You definitely could delete the second sentence.

Yes, that can work. Alternatively, you can leave out that second sentence, as @Tarheel has suggested.
