Last night, I watched an interesting documentary about a doll stylist. The stylist used to do make-up and hairstyling for people, but recent years he has been styling dolls. He told the interviewers that he fell in love with Barbies when he got the first one from his mother. The dolls he styled were exquisite so I was quite surprised that when he said he only spent 30 minutes to do an ordinary look for a doll, and two days for a more complex look.

What do you mean by "complex look"?

It means more make-up, accessories, details in hairstyles and dresses.
I don't think the adjective "complex" goes with "look" or appearance. I avoided using "look" a second time.

How about 'glamorous'?

That might work.

He takes a longer time to achieve a more glamorous look.

Hm. I think Ted's suggestion is a good one.

I don't like the phrase "styling dolls". You could use "dressing/decking up". There's also "dolling up" but it doesn't sound as good here.

To style is to design something to give it a certain look, not necessarily to do it.

One last thing. Say:

The dolls he styled were exquisite, so I was quite surprised when he said he only took 30 minutes to do an ordinary look for a doll but two days for a more elaborate look.

I took "that" out. I would use "takes" if he's still doing it
