[Vocabulary] difference between situated and sited

Hello
In a multiple choice exercise there is the sentence " The resort is ____________ in Jamaica."
Between the choices situated and sited the teacher's book has situated as acceptable but I cannot understand what the minimal difference between situated and sited is.Any help?

'Sited' for 'situated' is unusual - at least I haven't heard it until recently. I guess it belongs to the phenomenon of verbing nouns.
In any case, assuming that both verbs have equal legitimacy, there's still a difference in usage. You would not say, "Where are you going to situate the resort?" You'd use 'site'. The resort was/has been sited in Jamaica, so that's where it is now situated.
But I wouldn't assume that that is the tester's reason for choosing 'situated'.
