[Vocabulary] difference between situated and sited

Ηi,
In a multiple choice exercise there is the sentence "The hotel is _________ in Jamaica."
Between the options situated and sited the teacher's book accepts "situated" as correct but I cannot understand the difference between them.Any help?

There's not a huge difference, but situated is better in this context. They both derive from the Latin situs [= 'place'], but I think typical contexts for 'sited' often involve more temporary structures. Example: 'A building is situated...' but until it had been fully built it was 'a building site' (not a verb, I know, but the noun 'site' can have similar 'temporary' connotations - 'the site of the crash', the 'camp-site' etc.)
