Yes, you construct a fantasy consciously. Dreams just happen.

Sometimes either word can be used, but in many cases only one fits. For example:

At night we have dreams, we don't have fantasies.

Fantasy is a genre of movies, books, etc.

If we have a "dream" for the future, there is usually (but not always) a chance it will come true. If we just have a "fantasy" it is usually something that is just nice to think about but almost certainly will not come true.

There are more difference, too. Are you using these words in a specific context?

Actually this is the sentence in which I want to use one the words mentioned:

I wish I could be a butterfly, so I would be flying now. What a charming dream/fantasy.

In my opinion, either word is fine.
