[Grammar] eight-million- m2 area

Is this grammatically correct "The University's buildings were constructed on an eight-million- meter (m2) square area?

I mean eight-million-m2 area.

An eight-million-metre-square plot would have an area of 64 million square metres.
An eight million square metre plot would have sides measuring 2,828.427 metres each

The second is rather more likely.

what I meant is "Would it be correct to put the symbol of the square meter (m2) after the hyphen of million in eight- million or not ?"
