He has two models, a recumbent version and a more traditional street bike, and estimates neither ride cost much more than $200 total to build.

In my opinion, the bolded section means that according to his calculations the cost of rides on his two bikes did not exceed the total cost of building such railroad bikes. In other words, it cost him much more to build the bikes than to ride them.

What is your opinion?

You didn't. "Ride" is a slangy word for vehicle.
