hi,
is it possible to use "exact" instead of "exactly"?

the navel should be exact in the middle between...

with forms of "to be" you usually use the adjective, but this doesn't sound correct here.

thanks

That's right, it's incorrect.

The navel should be (exactly in the middle),
not
the navel (should be exact) in the middle.

What's an 'exact navel'? :)

I am not a teacher.

good afternoon.

(1)Yes, you use an adjective with "be" IF it is a linking verb: You are intelligent.

(2) But sometimes "be" is not a linking verb: The stove is in the kitchen. This time "is" means something like "located" or "exists."

(i) In your sentence, you are explaining where the navel is located.

Have a nice day!
