Do I need the word "from" with the verb "exit" in this sentence?

My side got a real hiding and couldn't make it through to the next round. In this context, do I need the word "from" with the verb "exit" to mean my side are dumped out of the competion?

The most natural way for a BrE speaker to say it is "We got knocked out of the FA Cup". If you really want to use "exit", use what Tarheel suggested in post #4.
