In the early hours of this crisis, we were faced by(= faced with?) demanding questions and choices.
Surprising similarities exist when looking at the challenges faced by(= faced with?) large organizations and small countries.

Are the two phrases interchangeable in the above sentences? Many thanks in advance.

In the first one "faced by" and "faced with" are both possible. In the second only "faced by" is correct. Can you see why?

Thanks a lot, bhai. Could it be because we say:
Sb faces difficulties/challenges etc
Difficulties/Challenges face sb
and from the latter comes the passive 'Sb is faced by difficulties/challenges etc'?
