Does it make any sense? Or maybe it's just a misprint.
 
I wouldn't use "faculty" like this. I would say "faculty members."
 
Have I got you right that "faculty"="faculty members" in this sentence?
 
When "faculty" is used this way, is it always plural?

"Faculty members" is plural because "members" is plural. However, they are "members" (plural) of "a/the faculty" (singular).
