"farewell" used as a verb

Is "farewell" used as a verb only in Australia and New Zealand, as stated on the dictionary page? Will it sound odd to the ears of AmE or BrE speakers?

(Perth Zoo is located in Australia.)

I've never encountered "farewell" as a verb, and that Perth Zoo statement sounds odd to me. It's not the first time, however, that I have encountered a noun that has been unusually "verbed".

Yes, but I thought this verbing of nouns occurred in the US first, and spread elsewhere. I'm not aware of any other examples from Australia, though I might research it.

As someone who has lived mostly in an environment of Aust/NZ English, I agree with Raymott. It's such a familiar usage I wasn't aware that it was so regionally specific.

I think it should spread beyond the borders- it's so obviously a good idea that I will be adopting it.
