Hi,

"A Chinese investor who had just bought a French vineyard is feared dead in a helicopter crash"

What does "feared dead" mean? He could be either feared or dead, but what is "feared dead" combined?

Thanks!

(It is) feared (that he is) dead.

Hello.

I'm confused because in the sentence the first part is the past perfect "had bought" and the second part is the present simple "is feared dead".

I think "was feared dead" is correct.

Am I wrong?

Boris.

The fearing of death is in the present.
