I have a few sentences here below. Could u please tell me the figures of speech of these...
1) But they are merely straw.
2) Fear is the tax that conscience pays to guilt.
3) Work is food for noble minds.
4) Man needs God as he needs water and oxygen.

1) But they are merely straw. They are weak, flexible, not strong, etc.
2) Fear is the tax that conscience pays to guilt. When you feel guilty about something, you're afraid you'll get in trouble.
3) Work is food for noble minds. A virtuous person appreciates the value of labor.
4) Man needs God as he needs water and oxygen. A person can't survive without food, water, and God.

Thanks. . But I wanted the name of the type of figure of speech used in these sentences. .
