I wanted to write an essay about fitting in. There is an writing activity in an English learning book that I'm studying. There are some topics and I chose this topic.
There are three main fitting in context: fitting in a different group in terms of culture, race or religion; fitting in a different group in terms of class; fitting in a different group in terms of personal traits.
In the context of fitting in a different group or society in terms of culture, race or religion, the process can be really long. Because these concepts have profound effects on people. They cover a big deal of every day life. In adittion the group or the society has more responsibility in this context. Because fitting in a different group in terms of these features can be quite traumatic and difficult for a person. Especially if this person hadn't chosen willingly to be in that group or society. This can cause a feeling of being torn up by the roots. It can be painful. Because of that the host society or group should be tolerant. But of course all of this don't remove the individual's responsibility of integration.
The other context is class difference. In my opinion this is the easiest one, at least by one aspect which is that it is more predictable. Moreover class difference doesn't have the profound effect on individual as cultural/racial/religious difference has. Even if the group or society and the individual don't have harmony, they can still develop a stable and consistent relationship.
The other context is the difference in terms of personal traits. There can be a vast difference between the group and the person. This can make the person self-conscious. However I believe that through some people that the person feel closer he or she can establish a bond with the group.
In short I believe fitting in is an important topic because people are social beings and the feeling of togetherness is what makes life colorful. Once I heard a metaphor that liken a life without friends to a garden that has no flowers
