I think the “food” in the first sentence and the “foods” in the second sentence can be exchanged like this.

The students served foods from many different countries. They served curry, tacos, sushi, noodles, and many other international food.

Do you think so?
 
I think the original is fine as it is. The first food refers to food in general, the substance which can be eaten. The second food is about the cuisines of different countries.

What about "a lot of other international food"? Is it possible in that context?
