Dear all:
What is the meaning of the abbreviation "s"in the following passage? It is from the book The Asian Trade Revolution of the Seventeenth Century, by Niels Steensgaard, p. 173:

"Apparently the Company nevertheless preferred to maintain a price that did not immediately oust the import via Aleppo, even if it meant the accumulation of considerable stocks; at any rate it is maintained in November 1623 that it could still pay to import indigo from the Levant for the Company's price of 5s. per lb."

Does it stand for "Shilling"? It is related to 4 centuries ago.
