Hi,

1. I had to do the same work for the second time.
2. I had to do the same work the second time.

Are both of them correct?

Thanks.

Grammatically, yes. However, they may not necessarily be used to mean exactly the same thing.

... However, they may not necessarily be used to mean exactly the same thing.

Are the differences between them as follows?

1. ... the second time: I did it the second time because I could not do it the first time completely.
2. ... for the second time: I finished it completely but I had to repeat it in a different occasion.

Not a teacher

I suppose there is no difference between them.

I [STRIKE]suppose[/STRIKE] think/believe there is no difference between them.

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

Whilst it is good of you to try to help other learners, please make sure you put "Not a teacher" at the start of all your responses to other people's questions. Note my corrections above. Your original was a grammatical sentence but it doesn't work in the context of this thread.

1. I had to do the same work for the second time.
2. I had to do the same work the second time.

In 1, the phrase in blue basically means again.
In 2, the phrase in blue could mean on the second occasion.

Here's a context to show what I mean about 2:

The first time I visited her, I had to do some work. I had to do the same work the second time.

You can see that the second time means the second time I visited her.

I suppose there is no difference between them.
Ileearin, please check the information you have given in your profile and make any amendments necessary.
