We were given a rule to memorize: from morning to (till) night.

Ok. But in the textbook there is no rule about any from ... to construction.

Could you help me understand whether articles are necessary in the screenshot or not?
If they are necessary, I believe articles are used pursuant to the general rule.

But if they are not necessary, what is the rule like?

It's got nothing to do with the construction "from...to."

I would write "from the typing pool to middle management."

The article is required for specific things (typing pool) but not for something general (middle management).
