2 people were dicussing a certain issue and then after a pause. one of them said that phrase!!

I understand that "gain 300 pounds" as "to put on weigh "300 pounds""!

What does that mean?

One of them wants to be a prtner with the boss in the business and the other is tell them what to do and say to the boss. So that other is acting as the boss asking his friend- who want the partnership- to practice the things that he's goint to say to the boss.
