We also say 'I went to hospital for a blood test'.

In AmE, we go to the hospital.We don't usually bother with "my".
I went to hospital to have [some] blood drawn for a regular checkup.
As you can see, you also don't absolutely need the definite article before "hospital" either.
In AmE, we go to the hospital.
