A man tries to run away from a guy who wants to harm him. After a long chase the man loses the guy and stops to catch his breath. But suddenly the guy stands behind him.

Guy: Did you really think you could get rid of me so/that easily?

Are 'so' and 'that' interchangeable here? Or is one of them more natural/appropriate to use in this context?

In BrE, I find only "that" natural.

Both are equally natural, and effectively interchangeable in the context.

I disagree. Only "that easily" is idiomatic.

In this context, 'so easily' means 'as easily as that' or 'as easily as you apparently assumed'. It's just another way of saying the same thing.
