Hands or palms?

'Oh, God,' she cried, with her palms/hands on her cheeks.


I feel like using the word 'palms'. Is it correct, or should I use 'hands' instead?
 
Either one is fine. Writer's choice.

'Palms' might suggest the hands are spread out a bit more.
 
The palm is the part of your hand between the base of your fingers and your wrist, so it is more likely that the palms are in contact with your cheeks when you are surprised, but the difference is minor.
