To be honest, I wouldn't put anything in the blank. The sentence is clear without an addition.

I would too, but it is in the form of a causative verb structure, which is a little troubling.

As has been said, there isn't really a correct one. The least incorrect is "happen" but the sentence is fine and more natural without it.

'happen' is the best choice.
