When someone was absent in the past two days, and he is also absent today.

Can I write "he has been absent for two days"?

If he is present today, can I write the same sentence?

Today is Wednesday.

If he was absent on Monday and Tuesday, you say: He was absent for the past two days (Monday and Tuesday).

If he is still absent today, you say: He has been absent for three days.

If he is absent today, you can also say "This is his third day's absence" or "This is his third day off [sick]".
