Can 'has been employed' go with the duration 'for nine years' ?

Yes, that's fine. But your sentence is not good in terms of parallelism. I would not "and" together "has been" with the present tense "travels."

Remove the "and" and make it a dependent clause:

...The French chef, who has been employed for nine years, travels with...
