Hi,
I just came across the line "Has Bess far to go to school?" in one of my son's English books. To me it doesn't sound right. Can anyone please shed some light on this?
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

The sentence is fine. It's just old-fashioned. My grandfather (born in 1921) would have used "Have you far to go?" where most people these days would say "Have you got far to go?" (BrE).

I just came across the [STRIKE]line[/STRIKE] question "Has Bess far to go to school?" in one of my son's English books.
Always tell us the title and author of any book you quote from, please. In this case, the year of publication could be significant, too. I can't see this as coming from a modern English textbook.

To me it doesn't sound right.

NOT A TEACHER

I believe that most Americans would prefer making it a "do" question, viz., "Does Bess have far to go to school?"
