Naresh Trehan is an Indiansurgeon and medical administrator. He has served as personal surgeon to thePresident of India since 1991, has received numerous awards, including the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.


Isn't it wrong to use just "has served" while using "since"?

It is quoted from Wikipedia.
 
If he still holds that position, then the present perfect is precisely the form we would expect.

I thought if we use "since" we should use present perfect continuous tense. "He has been serving as.....since 1991"
