Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right about my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

He stood up again and said: "Wawsley or Wurss-ley — however you call yourself — you have a hundred lines!"

have a hundred lines = copying text is a common penalty for misbehavior in English and American schools

Thanks for your efforts.

Regards,

V

Your interpretation is correct. Mind you, copying 100 lines isn't all that common these days.
