Hello! I have a question.

When a native speaker uses this sentence " I have been accepted by university" insted of " I was accepted by university", are there any clear reasons why he or she chose the first sentece not using the second one?

I have been studying on tenses but I can't tell the differences between the two.

Thank you in advance!!!

I am not a teacher.

I would use "have been" if the acceptance was recent and I haven't gone there yet.

"I have been accepted by xxx University and I will be going there next September."

I would use "was" if this happened further in the past.

"I was accepted by xxx University and went there after my gap year."
