Hi teachers,

"He cut my kite string." I know this doesn't happen in the UK but in Pakistan it is common. So I would like to ask how a native speaker would say:

Many thanks in advance.

"He cut my kite string" is fine.

How do you know it doesn't happen in the UK?

I get the impression that, in Pakistan, this a common group activity. A group of people get together to fly kites and they try to cut each other's kite strings.

In the cities of India and Pakistan there's no need to assemble a group. The roofs are flat and people fly their kites from the rooftops. Cutting the string of other kite-flyers is the main goal.

Yes, the OP said that in Pakistan it was common and I guess that anyone who has seen The Kite Runner knows how it works. However, the question in post #3 was "How do you know it doesn't happen in the UK?"

I have no idea whether it happens in the UK.

Sorry for the late reply, emsr2d2. :)

My uncles live in the UK. I asked their sons when they came to Pakistan whether they flew kites as we did. They say "no".

Thank you. It's a shame it doesn't happen here. It looks like fun!
